Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Toledo Falls to Big East Foe Xavier, 2-0

CINCINNATI, OH – Toledo fell at Xavier, 2-0, on Friday at the XU Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Rockets slip to 1-2-0 on the year.

UT found itself down early once again, as the Musketeers' (2-1-0) Catherine Allon found the back of the net off assists from Andie Kennard and Samantha Dewey in the eighth minute. Allon's first goal of the season proved to be the match winner for the home team.

After today's initial marker, the contest opened up with both teams trading good shots at the frame. UT's best chance to score came on a rip from outside the box by UT sophomore Regan Price that unfortunately bounced off the crossbar, while Xavier's Skylar Groth cashed in on its opportunity at the 30:21 mark. Addie Englehart and Kenadie Carlson were credited with helpers on Groth's first tally of the year.

Just like the first two contests of the season, Toledo's backline stepped up in the final 45 minutes and allowed Big East member Xavier to record only one shot on the frame.

"The match was a tale of two halves," head coach TJ Buchholz said. "We had some bad moments in the first half that put us down. Xavier played a better match than us."

The Midnight Blue & Gold finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, but the visitors were unable to strike gold in today's non-league matchup.

"We didn't do what we needed to do offensively today," said Buchholz. "We had a great second half, but it was just too late in the match as we were down. We're going to learn from our mistakes and bounce back against Kentucky."

Senior netminder Sam Tiongson had another solid match between the posts, making five saves on the afternoon.

The Rockets will now head to Lexington, KY next to take on SEC power Kentucky on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats are 2-1-0 on the year, defeating UNC-Greensboro 3-0 on Friday. The match can be seen on the SEC Network+ and Watch ESPN.
