Junior Tyler Baar homered twice to help guide Toledo to its fifth straight MAC series victory on Sunday afternoon.
Junior DH Tyler Baar launched a pair of home runs and added a double to spearhead the Toledo attack at the dish. Baar finished with a season-high four RBI and scored twice. Fellow junior SS Deion Tansel was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and is now batting a team-high .317 on the year.
Junior RHP Caleb Schillace picked up his third win of the season, giving up just one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Junior LHP Ross Achter and senior RHP shorty Tyson combined for 2.2 scoreless frames in relief for Schillace.
The RedHawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and pushed the lead to two in the fifth but it was all Rockets after that. Baar launched his first homer of the day, a three-run blast over the right field wall, in the sixth to give UT a 3-2 lead. The Rockets tacked on another two runs an inning later thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies from junior CF John Martillotta and freshman 1B Dalton Bollinger.
Baar capped off the scoring for Toledo in the eighth, as the Jenison, MI native smashed his fourth round tripper of the spring to push the lead to four.
The Rockets will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Dayton to square off against Wright State on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. Toledo will then end its regular season with a trip up US-23 for a three-game series at Eastern Michigan next weekend.
