TOLEDO, OH – Toledo fell to Mid-American Conference foe Miami (7-4-0, 3-1-0) on Sunday, 3-1. With the loss, the Rockets are now 4-9-0 on the year, and 0-4-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
The RedHawks found the back of the net three times in the first 20 minutes of the contest. The match was very similar to Friday's contest against Ball State. The Rockets pushed forward late and Sophomore
Sophie Pohl was able to score off an assist by sophomore
Hannah Scafaria.
"We showed a lot of heart and fight during today's match," first-year head coach
TJ Buchholz said. "This group is always going to battle, and we're proud of them for that."
The first half began with Toledo pushing forward and earning the first three shots of the match. Miami immediately countered and swung the momentum. Rachel Marble found the back of the net in the fourth minute. Two minutes later, Toledo surrendered an own goal. After Haley Walter netted a marker for Miami in the 19
th minute, UT settled in on defense and did not give up another goal.
Toledo earned nine shots in the second half, and did not allow Miami to fire a shot. The Rockets were able to capitalize once, when Pohl ripped the ball near post off a great helper from Scarfaria. The second half also saw freshman keeper
Katie Wilson earn her first time in goal. While she did not make a save, Buchholz knows how good the debut for Wilson was.
"She played really well in the second half," Buchholz said. "We asked her to come in and show us where she is. We didn't give up a goal, and that's partly due to her solid play."
The Rockets return to action next week when they take on archrival Bowling Green during Homecoming weekend on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4:00 p.m. The Midnight Blue & Gold will finish the weekend when they take on Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
