Toledo Finishes Home Schedule with Ohio and Kent State

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (6-11-0, 2-6-0 MAC) will return to Scott Park to wrap up the home portion of its regular season schedule against Ohio (5-10-0, 3-5-0 MAC) on Friday, Oct. 23 at 4:00 p.m. and Kent State (9-5-2, 5-3-0 MAC) on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1:00 p.m. The match against the Golden Flashes is "Senior Day" for Sam Tiongson, Megan Connor, Geri Siudzinski and Angelica Hernandez, and can be seen on ESPN3.
The Rockets will look to bounce back after falling to Buffalo and Akron last weekend on the road. UT is currently 10th in the Mid-American Conference standings with six points. Two wins this weekend would vault them into contention for a spot in the MAC Tournament. The top eight teams regardless of division qualify for the postseason. Teams earn three points for a win and one point for a draw.
"Last weekend's matches were very physical, and we played well in both," first-year head coach TJ Buchholz said. "Unfortunately for us, UB and UA found ways to win, and while we competed with both teams, we were unable to equalize and find a way to get back into the contests."
Goals will not easy to come by this weekend, but Buchholz knows his team can find the back of the net.Â
"The name of the game is scoring goals, and this team is plenty capable of doing that," Buchholz said, "This group is very motivated and is ready to bounce back and get after two very good squads."
Junior Brooke Maletic knows what playing at home means for the team.
"We love the atmosphere we have at home," Maletic said. "We want to represent our school well and when other teams step on our field, we don't want them walking away as a winner."
The Bobcats spilt two matches in Athens last weekend, falling to Eastern Michigan, 3-1, and defeating Bowling Green, 4-1. KSU took home two victories last weekend, defeating the Falcons 4-1 and the Eagles 3-0. Kent State's Donavan Capehart was named MAC offensive Player of the Week for her performance. Capehart netted a hat-trick against EMU and scored one goal against BG.
UT holds a 12-9-0 all-time record over Ohio, and defeated the Bobcats last year, 3-1. Toledo is also 8-11-1 all-time against Kent State, with its last win in the series coming at Scott Park in 2011.
Following this weekend's fixtures, the Midnight Blue & Gold will conclude its regular season at Central Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 3:00 p.m. Â
