TOLEDO, OH – Toledo picked up a conference win against Ohio (5-11-0, 3-6-0 MAC) on Friday, 3-0. With the victory, the Rockets improved to 7-11-0 on the year and 3-6-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
UT found the back of the net three times in the second half, all in the last 15 minutes of the contest. Sophomore Sophie Pohl broke open the scoring with a near post rip in the 75th minute. Four minutes later, junior Brooke Maletic collected a save and found the left corner of the net to increase the lead to two goals. Sophomore Isa Echeverri finished the scoring for the Midnight Blue & Gold with a header after senior Geri Siudzinski found her in the box.Â
Toledo heavily outshot the Bobcats in the contest 23-3 and did not allow a shot on goal. UT forced Ohio keeper Taylor Smith to make 12 saves during the match, and the Rockets controlled the play for the majority of the contest. First-year head coach TJ Buchholz knows what a dominant performance this late in the season does for the squad.
"The win gives us confidence going into the matchup with Kent State." Buchholz said. "Kent State is a strong team, and this kind of win lets us know we can compete with anyone in this conference."
Senior Megan Connor echoed Buchholz's sentiments.
"It gives us a lot of good energy and a lot of good momentum heading into our contest with Kent state," Connor said. "Today everyone was feeling good and we really put the pieces together."
Toledo returns to action in a key MAC contest against the Golden Flashes on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1:00 p.m. The contest is "Senior Day" and can be seen on ESPN3.Â
