Toledo Men's Tennis Concludes Rocket Invitational

TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men's tennis team concluded this weekend's Rocket Invitational with matches against Cleveland State and St. Francis on Saturday, and matches against Wayne State on Sunday. UT finished the invitational with an overall record of 18-12.

"We're not always seeing the consistency we expect yet," said head coach Al Wermer. "However, we are seeing tons of potential. It's a process, and it's going to be a fun ride seeing these guys grow."

On Saturday, freshman Luka Vitosevic defeated Cleveland State's Joe VanMeter 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.

Sophomore Omar Espinosa and freshman Serjen Olmedo lost their singles matches in three sets. Espinosa dropped a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 decision to Mirko Radosevic in the No. 3 slot, and Olmedo fell 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 to William Malm in spot No. 4.

Toledo went 3-3 in singles play against St. Francis. Espinosa, sophomore Stephen Miller, and freshman Danilo Pejovic all defeated their opponents in two sets. Espinosa beat Jan Vit Suntar 7-5, 6-0, Miller downed Robin van Der Heijedn 7-5, 6-4, and Pejovic won 6-7, 6-4 versus Eli Cerdan.

Toledo dominated Wayne State in the final matches of the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Freshmen Reid Teatsorth and Juan Carranza paired up to defeat Ryan Carlson and Luke Ruocco 6-2, 6-4 in the only doubles match.

Vitosevic won 7-5, 6-3 in No. 1 singles against Fazyl Kechai and Olmedo won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 singles versus Taylor Vane.

Pejovic won in a three-set battle (4-6, 6-4, 10-7) against Wayne State's Harvey Reed.

Miller played two eight-point sets. He defeated Nicholas Ang 8-3 but dropped an 8-5 decision to Derek Sammons.

The Rockets continue their fall play next weekend, Oct. 16-18 when they partake in the Valparaiso Invitational.Â
