Rockets Fall at Michigan, 4-0

9/6/2014 3:13:00 AM

ANN ARBOR, MI - The Rockets sustained a 4-0 setback at Michigan on Friday night. With the loss, Toledo drops to 3-2-1 on the season while the Wolverines improve to 3-2-0.

The match caps off a four games in seven days stretch for UT in which the Rockets finished with a 2-1-1 record.

"We were beaten by a better team on the day today," UT head coach Brad Evans said. "We struggled to deal with their athletic pressure and weren't able to hold the ball effectively. Michigan demonstrated their physical and technical superiority over us today.  We must remember that this was our first game away from home as well as our fourth game in seven days and that impacted our younger players significantly."

The game in Ann Arbor was delayed on two different occasions because of inclement weather. The first delay came in the sixth minute of play but the Wolverines jumped out of the gate on the restart.

Michigan's Nicky Waldeck beat junior UT keeper Sam Tiongson to a loose ball and fired a 20-yard shot at an open net to tally the first goal of the game.

The game was delayed yet again just a minute after the Waldeck goal but the stoppage did not cool off the Michigan attack.

UM struck again in the 35th minute as Madison Lewis tallied her second goal of the season.

The second half was more of the same for the Rockets as they gave up another pair of scores.

Waldeck netted her second score of the game in the 59th minute before Corinne Harris capped off the game with her first goal of the season in the 65th minute.

Toledo managed just two second-half shots against the Michigan defense and six overall. The Wolverines totaled 19 shots including 13 in the first half.

"It goes to show that not every game will come easily for us," said Toledo senior Rio James. "We can hard and pressure defensively all we want but we have to stay composed and make plays with the ball too. It's a learning process and we move on from here."

The Rockets will be on an eight-day hiatus before traveling to South Bend, IN on Sunday, Sept. 14th to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
