Toledo Battles Cal State Northridge to 0-0 Draw

8/24/2014 8:58:00 PM

Toledo battled Cal State Northridge to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Sunday afternoon at Scott Park. With the tie, the Rockets' record moves to 1-0-1 after defeating Detroit, 3-1, on Friday.

“I think our forwards, and this is part of their youth, didn't create enough today,” UT head coach Brad Evans said. “We did have a really good chance to win at the end and I am excited about this group. This was step in the right direction and we will continue to build.”

The Rockets and Matadors combined for 33 shots in the 110 minutes of play. Toledo junior keeper Sam Tiongson recorded six saves and is now 1-0-1 as a starter in 2014.

The Rockets best chance came late in the first overtime period as freshman Sophie Pohl made a run into the box and blasted a shot at net. The CSUN goaltender was just able to get a hand on the ball and deflect it over the crossbar.

The Matadors best chance also ended with a terrific save as Tiongson made a diving stop at the post to keep the match scoreless in the second half.

Toledo returns to action on Friday, Aug. 29 with a match at Scott Park against ACC foe Pittsburgh. The Rockets and Panthers will kickoff at 5 p.m.
