Toledo Tops Northern Illinois in MAC Tilt, 1-0

9/28/2008 4:00:00 AM

DeKALB, IL ? Senior Rachel White scored her second collegiate goal to lift Toledo to a 1-0 victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday at the NIU Soccer/Track & Field Complex. With today's Mid-American Conference win, the Rockets improve to 6-3-0 overall and more importantly even their league record at 1-1-0.

One of five seniors on UT's squad, White netted for first tally since her freshman year off a cross from junior Nora Jereb at 41:10, snapping the Huskies (5-2-3, 1-1-0 MAC) nine-match home unbeaten streak.

"Today was a hard-fought victory," White said. "I thought we played pretty well for all 90 minutes and were able to come away with a good road win."

The two-time defending MAC tourney champs finished the match with 11 shots on goal, including five off the foot of junior Molly Cornwell.

Between the posts, freshman Vicki Traven worked all 90 minutes and made five stops to record the shutout.

Toledo has now won the last seven meetings between the schools since 2003.

The Rockets return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Akron, OH to battle the Zips. The opening whistle from Lee Jackson Field is slated for 7:00 p.m.
