Women's Tennis Gives Western Michigan All They Can Handle

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The University of Toledo women's tennis team faced Western Michigan in a Mid-American Conference match-up today. The Rockets fell short 5-2 this afternoon to the Broncos.
"It was an extremely close match they athletes gave a lot of heart," said Head Coach Tracy Mauntler. "We fought really hard and I am especially happy with the effort but disappointed in the outcome."
UT opened doubles play with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 by senior Myriam Cueva and freshman Nadia Zoubareva. Both doubles teams of Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis at No. 3 and Sarah Horning and Jenny Belsky at No. 3, played tough matches fighting till then end. Both teams fell in extra games, 9-7.
Winning for the Rockets in singles were Guirguis at No. 2 and Belsky at No. 5. Guirguis defeated her opponent in a tough three set match 4-6, 6-3, and 1-0(10-7). Belsky dominated her first set 6-0 and won a tight second set 7-6 to capture UT's second point of the afternoon.
At No. 1 Cueva fought tooth and nail eventually falling 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. Wodzinski and Zoubareva also had close matches. Wodzinski lost 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 and Zoubareva fell 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4. Freshman Jessica Azoulay also lost at No. 6 6-2, 6-3.
The Rockets will finish out their regular season tomorrow when they travel to arch rival Bowling Green to play the Falcons at 1 PM.
