Bowling Green, Ohio - Toledo women's tennis defeated rival Bowling Green 6-1 in their final regular season match. Next weekend, April 26-29, the University of Toledo will host the Mid-American Conference women's tennis tournament.
In this afternoon's match, the Rockets captured the doubles point after the No. 1 team of Myriam Cueva and Nadia Zoubareva and the No. 2 team of Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis won. Each team played a close match. At No. 1 they won 9-8 (5) and at No. 2, 9-8 (2).
"The doubles point gave us some great momentum for our singles matches," said Head Coach Tracy Mauntler.
Despite losing the No. 1 singles match Toledo dominated the rest of the match, winning from No. 2 thru No. 6. At No.2 Wodzinski won 6-4, 6-2 while at No. 2 Guirguis handled her opponent wining 6-1, 6-1. Zoubareva won at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4 and Jenny Belsky won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Jessica Azoulay played tough from the beginning to the end of her match, winning 6-0 in her first set and 7-6 (3).
"We really dominated the singles matches from start to finish," said Mauntler. "I'm really proud of the effort we put forth. The focus we had today was impressive.
