WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Toledo (1-5-2) wrapped up its season-long seven-match road trip this afternoon with a hard-fought 1-1 double overtime tie against Purdue (7-1-2) at the Varsity Soccer Compex. The draw snapped a four-match losing skid for the Rockets and also stopped the Boilermakers six-match winning streak.

"Our kids played really hard today," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "We went up against a very talented Purdue team and played with a lot of passion and energy. It was something that maybe we've played without the last couple of matches on this long road trip."

The match remained scoreless until the 81st minute when freshman Molly Cornwell found classmate Heather Wesley splitting two Boilermaker defenders. A few steps later, Wesley pushed a diagonal across the face of the net, beating Purdue netminder Lauren Mason to her right for her first collegiate goal.

"Heather's goal was really well taken," Evans said.

But the lead would not stand up. With only 14 seconds remaining in regulation, the Boilermakers forced the overtime with a tally by Sylvia Forbes.

In the two extra 10-minute periods, Purdue held a commanding 11-0 edge in shots, but a tough Rockets' defense kept the home team from finding the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Jen Whipple, who had a school record 34 shots fired at her, finished with six saves, including three in the first overtime.

"We defended extremely well, and I thought Jen gave us a big lift and performed well in goal," Evans said."

The Rockets return to action next Friday, Sept. 22 at home when they open Mid-American Conference play against Western Michigan. The opening whistle is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Scott Park.

"We now look forward to playing at home for the first time in a month and getting the MAC season started," Evans said.
