East Lansing, MI - The University of Toledo women's tennis team lost its first match on the road this season, with a 7-0 setback at the hands of Michigan State on Sunday. The Rockets fall to 2-2 with the loss.
After a tough 4-3 loss to Louisville earlier in the day, the Spartans took out their frustrations on Toledo in the nightcap. The Rockets were very competitive in the top two singles flights and top doubles flight, but struggled in the lower flights, leading to the loss.
After missing the last two matches due to injury, junior Myriam Cueva won the first set of her first singles match with Christine Bader 6-3. Unforunately for the Rockets, Cueva lost the second set 6-2, and because the outcome of of the overall match was already decided, a tiebreaker format was used for the third set, which Cueva lost 1-0 (6).
Senior Eunice Paravicini lost for the first time this year both singles and doubles in two hotly decided contests, losing at first doubles with Cueva 8-6 and at second singles to Pascale Schnitzer 6-3, 7-6 (4).
"The match was more competitive than the score indicated," Head Coach Tracy Honko said. "We played them much better today than we did last year."
The Rockets return home to Laurel Hill on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Bradley at 10 A.M.
