Toledo Drops Non-Conference Match at Michigan State, 4-0

9/11/2005 12:00:00 PM

EAST LANSING, MI - The University of Toledo women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback at the hands of Michigan State on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Old College Field.

The Rockets fall to 3-2 overall with the loss, while the Spartans improve to 3-1-2.

MSU scored three goals in the first half on 15 shots to take the early advantage on the Rockets. UT mustered just three shots in the opening 45 minutes.

"Today was just a bad day," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "We really struggled to sort out some things in the first half and allowed three quick goals."

The Rockets allowed just one goal in the second half, but managed only one shot attempt. Sophomores Pene Hughes and Sarah Schulte had Toledo's lone shots on goal for the game.

"In the second half, we made quite a few changes and played better, but I think we need to play better on a more consistent basis as we go through the season."

Junior goalkeeper Jen Whipple did her best to keep the Rockets in the contest, stopping 10 Spartan attempts. MSU tallied 19 shots for the game.

Emma Harris led the Spartans with two goals and one assist, while Jenee Weatherspoon added two assists.

Toledo returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 when it hosts IPFW at Scott Park at 5:00 p.m.
