Rockets Earn Third-Straight Victory in 2-1 Decision over Detroit Mercy

Morgan Spitler and Kaema Amachree net goals for Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team earned its third-consecutive home victory, scoring in each half of a 2-1 triumph over Detroit Mercy at Paul Hotmer Field on Thursday evening.

The Rockets (3-1-1) took the lead inside 20 minutes on a Morgan Spitler goal, before Kaema Amachree netted the eventual winner in the 63rd minute. Toledo held off a late push by the Titans to preserve the one-goal win. The Rockets out-shot Detroit 9-7 and held a 6-1 advantage in corners.

Toledo marks its first three-match winning streak since winning four in a row from Oct. 1-12, 2023. The Rockets also won their first three home matches in a season for the first time since 2021 by out-scoring opponents 6-1 on the homestand.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MARK BATMAN
"Really competitive second half, especially from Detroit Mercy. Once we got the second goal, I felt like we lost sight of what we were asking them to do, and that put us under a lot of pressure. UDM got a scrappy goal. That's their m-o, but our girls did a really good job of responding for the last eight minutes. They need to go through some of that pressure to understand what it's like in the MAC. In years past, we've potentially tied games like that, so really happy with the result."

ROCKET GOAL SUMMARY STAT LEADERS KEY MOMENTS

  • 63' | Kaema Amachree won a contested ball, then turned and fired from outside the box, finishing up and over the keeper in the top-left corner for a 2-0 advantage.
  • 72' | The Titans won a loose ball in the box and Jada Rivera connected to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal ended a 322-minute scoreless streak by the Toledo defense.
