YPSILANTI, MI - Toledo (10-6-0, 5-4-0 MAC) had its season-best four-match winning streak snapped this afternoon with a 4-1 setback against Eastern Michigan (7-9-1, 5-4-0 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action at Scicluna Field.
"We got thoroughly outplayed today in every phase of the game," Toledo Brad Evans said. "Give EMU credit for needing a big win and earning it."
The hectic first half saw three goals scored within the first 15 minutes of play. Toledo senior Pam Richard notched the first goal of the game with a header that went off the post past EMU goalkeeper Sarah Shiffbauer at the 5:33 mark. It was Richard's fifth goal of the season.
The Eagles responded to tie the score, 1-1, in unlikely fashion as a
Toledo defender attempted to pass the ball back to junior goalkeeper Jen Whipple and accidentally shot the ball over her head for an own goal with 11:57 left in the half.
EMU Lauren Clyne tallied the game winner on an assist from Michele Lawrence on a corner kick to put the Eagles up for good, 2-1, at the 15:56 mark.
During the second half, the Eagles got an unassisted goal by Libby Nierman and another one by Ashley Upton which was also assisted by Lawrence to secure a 4-1 victory. The four goals are the most the Eagles have tallied all season.
"We're certainly not out of the conference tournament race, but we're definitely disappointed with this result," Evans said. "I feel we should be playing better at this time of the year than we showed today. Now we have to refocus our energy for Sunday and Central Michigan."
The Rockets return to action on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Central Michigan in a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
