Toledo and Kent State Battle to Draw, 1-1

Final Stats

KENT, OH - The University of Toledo women's soccer team battled Kent State to a 1-1, double-overtime draw Sunday afternoon. The Mid-American Conference match was held at KSU Soccer Field.

The result leaves the Rockets with an overall record of 6-6-3, and a MAC mark of 3-4-2. The Golden Flashes are now 9-2-5 and 5-2-3, respectively.

"Our kids played hard today and really created some things for us," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "I liked how we rebounded from Friday's loss to Buffalo against probably the hottest team in the MAC right now. Obviously, we would have liked to get the win, but we responded to Kent's goal late in the first half and hit a cross bar in the second half, as well. This was a great way to turn around the weekend."

Playing on a windy day, the teams were evenly matched, with both goals and the better of the scoring chances, coming at the East end of the field. Kent State played with the wind at its back in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead just 41 seconds before halftime when Kimberly Dimitroff scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season.

KSU's Ashley Bohinc lofted a pass from the left side of the field to the right side, where Dimitroff collected the pass and made a move. After a dribble up the field, Dimitroff laced a shot into the upper left corner.

Toledo then needed only 12 minutes in the second half to tie the game after a corner kick. The ball was served into the area to the far post, where junior Pam Richard headed the ball back across the goal to classmate Kelly Langenbeck, who headed it home for her fifth of the year. Langenbeck, who scored all three goals this weekend for UT, now leads the team in tallies (5), points (12) and is tied for first in assists (2).

In overtime, neither team mustered much offense as Kent State outshot Toledo 3-2 in the extra time, evening the game total as each team registered 17 shots in the contest.

Sophomore Jen Whipple made 10 saves to earn the draw, while Alicia Fernandez made three saves for Kent State.

The Rockets return home for a pair of matches next weekend. UT will face defending MAC Tournament champion Western Michigan in a Friday, Oct. 22 match, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Scott Park. Then, Toledo will take on Northern Illinois in Sunday action, starting at 1:00 p.m.
