Final Stats

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo women's soccer team lost 1-0 at Ball State on Sunday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at the BSU Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 5-7 overall, 3-4 in MAC play, while the Cardinals improve to 6-4-2 overall, 4-2-1 in the league.

"Today was an exciting game," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "Both teams seemed tentative in the first half, but in the second the game was a little more fast paced. This was just a well played game by both teams."

Stacy Shull's first career goal was all BSU needed in the match. Shortly after Ball State's Dee Nocero served up a corner kick, Shull was able to send the loose ball past UT's redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jen Whipple. Nocero and Gretchen Echelbarger were each credited with an assist.

The Rockets registered 13 shots on the afternoon, 10 of which came in the second half. Ball State finished the day with 18 total shots, 15 of which came in the second stanza. BSU also recorded a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks for the match. BSU's goalkeepers Megan Swafford and Alison Becker combined for their fourth shutout of the season.

Toledo senior Melissa Lesage and BSU's Kate Nadalin led their respective squads by taking five shots apiece.

"Both teams had limited chances to score," Evans said. "But Ball State made the most of the one. Both squads were well organized defensively and didn't let a lot in behind. It is always tough to lose, but I think the kids played well."

The Rockets return to the road next Friday with a contest in DeKalb, IL against Northern Illinois. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
