Final Stats
TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Michigan State Wednesday afternoon in its regular-season finale. The non-conference game was held at Carter Field.
With the loss, the Rockets fall to 6-10-1 overall, while the Spartans improve to 9-7-2, respectively.
"I thought we competed pretty well today," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "Michigan State is a very good team. We battled as hard as we could, but just fell short."
Michigan State got on the scoreboard at 29:01 on a goal by Adrienne Treado. Heidi Lutz was credited with the assist. Off an MSU free kick which was played into the Toledo penalty box, Lutz slid a pass in traffic to Treado, who was able to gain control and fire a shot past a stunned Elise Donovan for the score.
The away team took that 1-0 lead into the halftime break, and the score stayed the same until the 59:54 mark.
At that point, the Spartans doubled their lead on a header score by Nicole LaPlae, off a corner kick by Michelle Perun
The Rockets, who finished their MAC season last Friday, must now sit around and wait to see if they will qualify for the upcoming conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday, Nov. 6. UT currently holds the eighth and final tournament slot with 16 team points. Tenth-place Ball State, which has 14 points, plays host to Bowling Green tomorrow in Muncie, IN. A Cardinal victory over the Falcons would send them to the tournament, while a loss or a tie would send UT to the post-season for the second-consecutive season. A team earns three points for a win and a single point for a tie.
"It is going to be tough to root for the Falcons," Evans said. "But we have to if we want our season to continue."
