YPSILANTI, MI - The University of Toledo women's soccer team opened the 2000 MAC season on Friday afternoon, losing 2-0 to defending conference champion Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, MI. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 1-3-0 (0-1-0 MAC), while the Eagles improve to 2-1-1 (1-0-0 MAC).

"We just did not come out ready to play today," said Toledo Head Coach Rj. Anderson. "If there was a time to defeat Eastern, it was today. We just didn't do the things we needed to do to win. Whenever we needed to catch a break, it just wasn't there."

Eastern got its first goal at the 11:29 mark when forward Kate Lewis blasted a shot that Toledo goalkeeper Elise Donovan made a diving save on, but Jessica Hupe followed and finished the play for her third goal of the season. That would the only goal of the first half, as Toledo was outshot, 10-2.

Toledo's best scoring opportunity came in the 53rd minute, when freshman Sofia Rask launched a low driving shot that hit the post.

EMU added another goal at 82:04 on a perfect shot by Brandy Jones to make the final score 2-0.

Toledo got another quality performance between the posts from Donovan, who recorded 16 saves. For the contest, Toledo was outshot 23-5.

The Rockets will now have four days off to prepare for their home-opener on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when they entertain the Grizzles of Oakland at 4:00 p.m. at the Scott Park Soccer Complex.
