The past three seasons, Walker has coached one of the best tight ends to ever wear the Blue and Gold, Mike Bilik. Bilik was twice named second-team All-MAC, and finished his career with with 75 receptions. Walker also coached R-Back Lyle Green, who was voted the team's most valuable receiver in 1999 and a co-captain in 2000.
Walker came to Toledo after spending eight years at Central Washington University, where he served as offensive coordinator. He was also CWU's offensive line coach for six seasons.
In 1993, behind Walker's offensive line, the Wildcats led all NAIA schools in total offense, averaging 517 yards per game. CWU also ranked first in the NAIA in rushing, averaging 198.5 yards per game. In 1995, CWU finished sixth in the nation among NAIA schools in total offense (460.4 yards per game) and third in passing (344.6 yards per game). The Wildcats earn-ed a share of the NAIA national title, tying Findlay (OH) in the title game.
The quarterback of that team, Jon Kitna (now with the Seattle Seahawks), finished his career with 12,907 yards in total offense and 12,353 passing yards, the best and second-best, respectively, in NAIA Division II history. At CWU, Walker also coached the only two Kodak All-Americans in school history. He also served the university as director of athletic development and assistant track and field coach.
Walker graduated from Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee, Washington where he earned All-Mid Valley League honors at linebacker and center. He played two seasons at Yakima Valley College before Central Washington.
A 1983 graduate of CWU where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business adminstration, Walker was a two-year starter for the Wildcats at center. He earned a master of science degree in physical education in 1989.
Walker and his wife, Sharryn, are the parents of Natalie, 8 and Maggie, 5.
