Tom Beutler was the first recognized All-American football player in University of Toledo history. He was named first-team All-MAC as a middle guard three times, 1965, 1966 and 1967. In 1967 he was named the MAC "Linemen of the Year." He started in the East-West Shrine Bowl Game in San Francisco and blocked a field-goal attempt to preserve a 16-14 win for his team. Beutler started in the Coaches All-American Game in Atlanta, GA. He was awarded the Nicholson Trophy in 1967 as "the player contributing the most toward the success of the team." Following his college career he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played five seasons with the Browns, Baltimore Colts, and Memphis Southmen of the USFL.
