Post-Game Notes vs, Temple
Toledo Game Notes
Marmot Boca Raton Bowl
Toledo vs. Temple, Dec. 22, 2015
• The Rockets (10-2) finished with 10 wins for just the seventh time in school history and the first time since a 10-2 mark in 2001.
• The Rockets are now 11-4 all-time in bowl games and 8-3 vs. Temple.
• Jason Candle won his debut as head coach. Candle called the game from the press box, which has been his normal position for the past four years as the Rockets’ offensive coordinator.
• Senior quarterback Phillip Ely, who completed 20-of-28 passes for 285 yards and two TDs, was named the game’s Offensive MVP. His completion percentage of 71.4% was the second-highest of his career.
• Sophomore linebacker Ja’Wuan Woodley was named the game’s Defensive MVP. He forced a fumble in the second quarter that went into the back of the end zone for a safety, Toledo’s first two-pointer since the Northern Illinois game on Nov. 9, 2010. He also had six tackles and a tackle for loss.
• Sophomore wide receiver Cody Thompson racked up a career-high 119 yards receiving on four receptions. His 80-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter was the second-longest catch of his career.
• Toledo’s defense held Temple to three points at halftime, the fewest points given up at the break since UT held Ball State to three points at the break on Oct. 3.
• Toledo’s defense broke up a season-high 10 Temple passes and intercepted one pass.
• Alonzo Russell caught a pass for the 50th-straight game, setting a Toledo record previously held by Steve Odom (49 from 2003-06).
• Russell did see his streak of 49 straight starts broken. He was required to sit out the first half due to his ejection in UT's final regular season game for targeting. He had started every single game in his four-year career until tonight’s game.
• Nick Ellis booted a career-long 64-yard punt in the second quarter.
