Post-Game Notes vs. Bowling Green

TOLEDO at Bowling Green (Nov. 17, 2015)
Bowling Green, OH (Doyt L. Perry Stadium)
  • Toledo extended its series-long winning streak against the Falcons to six games. The victory also reduced Bowling Green’s all-time series advantage over the Rockets to 39-37-4.
  • Toledo’s 5-0 road record this season is the first time since the 1971 season it was undefeated and untied away from the Glass Bowl. The Rockets did post a 5-0-1 mark in road games in the 1995 campaign.
  • The Rockets are 17-1 against MAC East Division opponents since 2010. UT’s only loss to a cross-division foe during that stretch came against Akron, 31-29, in its season finale on Nov. 29, 2013.
  • UT is 38-9 in Mid-American Conference contests since 2010.
  • Toledo’s defense forced five turnovers, matching the most by a Rocket opponent this season. UT also forced five turnovers against Arkansas State (Sept. 26).
  • Toledo’s 30 points in the first half are a season high. The Rockets’ previous best was 28 vs. EMU on Oct. 17.
  • The Rockets’ four rushing touchdowns tonight marked a season high. Senior QB Phillip Ely contributed to that total with his first career rushing touchdown, an eight-yard scamper in the third quarter.
  • Junior RB Kareem Hunt carried the ball a season-high 29 times for a season-best 153 yards. He scored two touchdowns to give him 31 career rushing touchdowns, tying Emerson Cole (1947-49) for fifth place on UT’s all-time list. Roland Moss (1966-68) ranks fourth with 32 career TDs and Joe Schwartz (1970-72) is fifth with 35 career TDs.
  • Hunt also moved into fifth place on the Rockets’ all-time rushing list in the first quarter. He moved past former Rocket Jalen Parmele (2004-07) and has 3,252 yards in his UT career. David Fluellen (2010-13) ranks fourth with 3,336 yards.
  • Hunt topped the 100-yard mark for the 19th time in his career to move into second place in UT history. Hunt was tied with Wasean Tait (1993-98) entering tonight and is now eight TDs behind the Rockets’ all-time leading rusher Chester Taylor (1998-2001).
  • Senior WR Alonzo Russell has caught at least one pass in 48 straight games, just one behind UT’s all-time leader Steve Odom (2003-06). Russell totaled three catches for a team-high 74 yards with one touchdown.
  • Russell also moved into second place on UT’s career touchdown list with 24 scores. He is one behind former Rockets Lance Moore (2001-04) and Eric Page (2010-13) for the school record.
  • Russell became the third Rocket to surpass 3,000 receiving yards. He ranks third in UT history with 3,014 yards and now ranks fifth in Toledo annals with 197 receptions. Russell moved ahead of Bernard Reedy (195 catches from 2010-13) in tonight’s game.
  • Senior CB Cheatham Norrils leads the team with three interceptions after notching a career-best two picks tonight. He has three INTs in his last two games and six in his Rocket career.
  • Sophomore CB Trevon Mathis registered a career-high eight tackles, surpassing his previous best of four on three occasions.
  • Freshman S Josh Teachey started his second game of the season in place of senior Rolan Milligan. Milligan did see action after sitting out UT’s last two contests due to injury and recorded two tackles, one forced fumble, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.
  • Freshman PK Jameson Vest booted a season-high three field goals for a fourth time this year. He connected from 20, 22 and 35 yards out in the first half before missing a 51-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.
  • The Rockets tallied touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. It was the first time this season and first since last year’s game at Eastern Michigan (Nov. 28) that UT reached the end zone on its first two possessions.
  • Toledo scored on its first six drives of the game. The only drive UT didn’t find the end zone was when it ran out the clock before halftime.
