Post-Game Notes
*With today’s victory, Toledo improves to 4-0 on the year and is now sporting a seven-game winning streak, dating back to last season. It is the second-longest unbeaten stretch under the direction of Coach Campbell. The Rockets won eight-straight contests during the 2012 season.
*UT won its Mid-American Conference opener for the eighth-consecutive year. The Midnight Blue & Gold are also unbeaten after four games for the first time since 2001.
*Toledo limited Ball State to 26 yards rushing for 30 attempts. Over the last two contests, the Rockets have held the opposition to 12 yards on the ground on 54 carries. UT restricted Arkansas State to -14 yards rushing on 24 carries last Saturday. BSU came into today’s MAC opener leading the MAC in rushing offense, averaging 232.0 yards per game.
*Sophomore RB Terry Swanson carried the ball a career-high 24 times for a season-best 139 yards, topping the century mark for the first time this season and third time in his collegiate career. Swanson came into today’s game with 18 carries for 76 yards in two contests this fall.
*Junior Damion Jones-Moore started at running back for the second-straight game and finished with 17 rushes for 85 yards, including a five-yard TD scamper in the second period. Jones-Moore has now scored a rushing TD in each of the last six games, dating back to last season.
*Senior QB Phillip Ely went the distance under center and completed 16-of-22 passes for 164 yards and a season-high two scores. At one point in today’s contest, Ely had a string of 10-consecutive completions.
*Senior WR Alonzo Russell hauled in a 38-yard TD reception in the second period. Russell has now caught a pass in 42 straight games. With today’s effort, Russell moves into a three-way tie for fourth place in school history in career TD catches (21) and eighth in receptions (176).
*Junior TE Michael Roberts reeled in a three-yard TD reception in the second quarter. It was Roberts’ first TD on the season and third in his UT career.
*Freshman PK Jameson Vest booted a 31-yard field goal in the second period. Vest has now converted a field in each of the first four games this season.
*Junior LB Jaylen Coleman paced the UT defense for a fourth-straight week with eight tackles.
*Junior FS DeJuan Rogers forced a fumble in the first quarter and finished with five stops.
*Senior DE Trent Voss was credited with seven stops, including a season-best 3.0 tackles-for-loss. Voss also registered his first sack of the season in the first quarter.
*Senior DE Tre James tallied a sack in the first period. James has now posted a sack in two of the last three games.
*UT scored a season-high 24 points in the second period, surpassing its previous best effort of 17 points against Arkansas State in the first quarter last Saturday. The Rockets had been outscored 21-16 in the second period through the first three games this fall.
*Toledo was shutout in the first quarter for the first time this season. The Rockets had entered today’s game outscoring their opponents 33-3 in the first 15 minutes of competition.
