Post-Game Notes
* With today’s victory, Toledo improves to 7-0 on the year, 4-0 in the MAC, and is now sporting a 10-game winning streak, dating back to last season. It marks UT’s longest winning streak since the Midnight Blue & Gold won 12 straight over the course of 2000-01. It is also Toledo’s fifth double-digit winning streak in school history. Toledo won 35 games in a row between the years of 1969-71, 12 straight in 1967-68 and 10 in a row in 1982-83.
* Toledo scored 38 unanswered points to improve to 16-1 against MAC East Division opponents since 2010. The Rockets’ last loss to a cross-division foe came against Akron, 31-29, on Nov. 29, 2013.
* The Rockets ran 105 plays, second-most in school history in a single game, and posted a season-best 620 yards of total offense (355 passing, 265 rushing). UT has now topped 600 yards of total offense in each of the last two contests.
* Toledo is averaging a staggering 50.7 points and 583.0 yards of total offense over the last three games. UT has now scored at least 50 points in consecutive games on four occasions under head coach Matt Campbell.
* UT trailed 28-10 at the 8:23 mark in the second period before scoring 38 straight points to post the fifth-largest comeback in school history. It is also the Rockets’ largest deficit overcome since they posted 17-consecutive points against Ball State after trailing 17-0 en route to tallying a 31-24 triumph on Oct. 23, 2010. The largest was a 24-point comeback vs. Western Carolina in 1975.
* Senior QB Phillip Ely completed 26-of-47 passes for a collegiate-best 355 yards and a career-high five TDs, tied for third most in school history. Ely’s previous best effort was 337 yards against New Hampshire on Aug. 30, 2014 and four TD tosses on two occasions. The senior captain has now thrown 13 TD passes in the last four contests.
* Junior WR Corey Jones reeled in a 20-yard TD reception in the second quarter. Jones finished with a season-tying best eight catches for 88 yards. He also had eight grabs against Arkansas in the season opener on Sept. 12. The Pittsburgh, PA native has now scored a TD in each of the last three games.
* Sophomore RB Terry Swanson carried the ball a game-high 21 times for a contest-best 118 yards, including a one-yard TD plunge in the fourth quarter. Swanson has now topped the century three times this season and on five occasions in his collegiate career. He has aqlso found the end zone in four of the last five games.
* Sophomore WR Cody Thompson was credited with a four-yard TD reception in the third quarter and a 31-yard TD catch in the fourth. Thompson finished with six catches for a career-best 116 yards, surpassing the century mark for the third time in the last five games. He has now tallied a TD catch in each of the last three contests.
* Senior WR Alonzo Russell was credited with a 15-yard TD catch in the third quarter to move into fourth place in school history with 22 career scoring receptions. Russell finished with a season-tying best five grabs for a season-high 96 yards. He has now caught at least one pass in 45 straight games.
* Sophomore LB Ja’Wuan Woodley picked off his collegiate pass on the final play of the second quarter and returned it 83 yards. Woodley finished with two stops.
* Senior NICK Rolan Milligan spearheaded the defense with a season-high 10 stops. Milligan’s previous best effort was eight tackles vs. Eastern Michigan last Saturday. His career high is 13 stops at Arkansas on Oct. 25, 2014 as a member of UAB.
* Freshman FS Josh Teachey made his first collegiate start and finished with four tackles.
* Junior TE Michael Roberts grabbed a four-yard TD pass in the third quarter. Roberts finished with two receptions for 12 yards. He has now registered a TD in three of the last four contests.
* Freshman PK Jameson Vest booted a season-tying best three field goals, converting from 35 yards in the first quarter, 25 yards in the fourth and 29 yards in the fourth. Vest has now converted three field goals on three occasions in his first season wearing the Midnight Blue & Gold.
* The Rockets outscored UMass 21-0 in the third quarter. Through the first seven games this fall, UT has posted a decisive 73-0 scoring advantage in the opening 15 minutes after halftime.
* Toledo opened the game with a 14-play, 60-yard drive that resulted in a 35-yard field goal by freshman PK Jameson Vest. The Rockets have now produced points on three occasions on their opening drives. They also produced a field goal against Iowa State (Sept. 19) and a touchdown versus Arkansas State (Sept. 26).
* UT surrendered a 10-yard TD pass in the first quarter, signifying the first score the defense has given up in the opening period this season. The Rockets had allowed a TD against Kent State (Oct. 10) in the first 15 minutes, but it came on a botched snap on a punt that was recovered in the end zone.
* Toledo held a decisive 36:58-23:02 edge in time of possession. The Rockets held the ball for over nine minutes in three of the four quarters.
* UT was a perfect 8-of-8 in red zone scoring chances, tallying five TDs and three field goals.
