Rockets send seven boats to compete in first regatta of the 2026-27 season
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's rowing team opened up the second-ever season in program history by competing on its home course of the Maumee River in the Glass City Regatta on Saturday.
The Rockets sent in seven boats, including three in the women's collegiate 8+ and four in the women's collegiate 4+. Â The leading collegiate 8+ boat clocked a time of 14:29.605 while the front boat in the collegiate 4+ tallied a time of 16:10.872.
The team turned in great times, including times that were over a minute faster than what they recorded last year at the same competition, showing the growth of the team that features a mixture of returners and newcomers, both to the squad and the sport of rowing.
"The team's execution the whole day was awesome," said head coach Chris Bailey-Greene. "Being a team that features a majority of new athletes from various athletic backgrounds, I think we had a phenomenal day overall. Even though we raced each other, I think the team handled the conditions really well and were very adaptable through change and were proactive in their recovery. They were also super supportive of one another. Our novice 8 beat the time of our varsity 8 from last year, which is really exciting, especially as they have only been racing for a couple of weeks. Our varsity 8s put up times that were about a minute and a half faster than we had put up last year.
"A lot more depth and a lot of growing to do, but I think the team is excited about the culture of this squad and supportive and encouraging of one another. They challenge themselves and push their ceilings. We're amped up to go to Pittsburgh in three weeks and continue the season."
