Rockets see action against top-50 national teams and MAC opponents in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Toledo women's rowing team competed in its third regatta of the fall season at the Head of the Schuylkill on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa., one of the largest and rowing competitions in the nation.
The Rockets competed against over a dozen collegiate programs, including some top-50 national teams as well as UPenn, Georgetown, Villanova, West Virginia and Mid-American Conference opponents Temple and Delaware.
UT fielded four boats in the women's championship 4+ and three boats in the women's championship 8+. The Rockets placed within the top-20 in the championship 8+, recording an 18th-place finish with a time of 13:40.458.
The young Rockets team executed well in each event throughout the weekend and continue to better each other by keeping high expectations and continually executing the small details.
Quoting Head Coach Chris Bailey-Greene
"It was a great weekend overall and the team brought great vibes. I think we have great potential, especially with our youth. To go into such a large event and compete against teams that are ranked top-20 in the country and some of our conference opponents, the team handled themselves really well. We have a lot of depth across our top two 8+ boats and they continue to help each other get better.
"I think we surprised a lot of people with our execution down the race course this weekend and we just did the small details really well. It's the small things that make a big difference. Our standard was high this weekend and we placed well against other Division I programs. We are working hard to keep putting Toledo rowing on the map, both regionally and nationally."
