Ty O'Brien and JP Wagner each have three hits in Battle of I-75 win
Â
Toledo (28-25) has now won 10 of its last 11 games and 6-of-7 vs. BGSU dating back to last year. UT took this year's season series, 3-1. The 10-run victory was Toledo's biggest in the rivalry since a 19-7 victory on May 20, 2023.Â
The Rockets trailed 3-0 after the second inning, but a five-spot in the third put them in front, 5-3. Toledo then added three more in the sixth inning for a 9-5 advantage before finishing things off with a six-run explosion in the eighth for a 15-5 lead.
Â
The Rockets totaled five multi-hit efforts, including three hits apiece from redshirt freshman Ty O'Brien and junior JP Wagner. Junior Charlie Scholvin, junior Cade Baker and freshman Ryan Sudbrook each tallied two hits. O'Brien launched his third home run of the season and led the way with four RBIs. Baker, Sudbrook and freshman Liam Arsich each collected multi-RBI games. Six different Rockets scored multiple runs, and Toledo totaled six doubles.
Â
On the mound, junior John Hojnowski and freshman Sam Rufenacht each worked three innings, with a scoreless effort from Rufenacht. Rufenacht carried the final three frames to earn his first career save. Redshirt junior Ryan Hughes (3-3) got the win.
Tuesday's game did not count towards the Mid-American Conference standings.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"I am really proud of the way we played tonight. To get down 3-0 and then come back and dominate the game the way we did was exciting to watch. The offense was absolutely dominant tonight. We won the series against our rivals against the year. Now we can turn our focus to a very important and pivotal weekend versus Kent State."
