Rockets' shortstop is hitting .429 this season with seven multi-hit games
TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior shortstop Charlie Scholvin was picked as a Brooks Wallace Award watch list selection among the top shortstops in the country, the College Baseball Foundation announced on Wednesday.

Scholvin was named to the list among 100 of the top shortstops in Division I college baseball. He was one of just five selections from the Mid-American Conference.

The Lewis Center, Ohio has started off the season swinging a hot bat, with a .429 average and a 1.014 OPS. He has tallied 18 hits, 10 runs scored and eight RBIs, adding seven walks and three hit by pitches. Scholvin has tallied seven multi-hit games of the 11 played so far. In Toledo's recently completed series against Lipscomb, he hit .533 (8-for-15) with a .650 on-base percentage.

In the field, Scholvin has a .949 fielding percentage, with nine putouts and 28 assists to just two errors.

Scholvin is also a team captain, and was named as the #41 shortstop in Division I in D1Baseball's preseason rankings.

The Wallace Award, which started in 2004, honors the top shortstop in college baseball. It is one of four awards presented by the College Baseball Foundation. Current Major League Baseball players Alex Bregman, Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson and Matt Shaw are among the award's winners.

The award will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later in the year.

Scholvin and the Rockets are back in action on Friday, March 6, beginning a three-game series with UMass at 3:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
