Troy Sudbrook, Jacob Payne Supply Five RBIs Each as Rockets Throttle Akron, 13-1

Toledo hits four home runs and draws nine walks to take series opener in seven innings
Â
The Rockets (11-13, 7-3 MAC) led from the very first batter, a leadoff homer by Cade Baker, plated three runs in the second, three more in the fourth, then added a five-spot in the seventh which included a grand slam by Payne . The early cushion was plenty enough for the pitching duo of Nathan Leininger and Braden Curry, who combined for a three-hitter. Toledo is now 6-1 in series-opening games this season.
Â
Both Sudbrook and Payne set or tied career highs with their five RBIs, and Sudbrook also reached the 100-RBI mark for his Rocket career. Sudbrook also earned his ninth multi-hit bid in his last 10 games, and is batting a blistering .489 (22-for-45) in that span. Payne (2-for-5) marked his eighth multi-hit game of the season. Sudbrook scored three runs, while Baker, Charlie Scholvin and Saborn Campbell each scored twice. Scholvin (2-for-4) also collected his 12th multi-hit game of the season. Toledo also drew nine walks as a team, with two each from Sudbrook and Luke Walton.
Â
Leininger (5-0) picked up the win in his fifth-straight start. He tallied 5.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts. Braden Curry picked up the rest of the work, with 2.0 scoreless and hitless frames.
Â
Toledo and Akron will continue the series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Feels good to get back in the win column. Nate (Leininger) gave us a quality start and Curry was good in relief. It was nice to see us get back to swinging the bats the way we are capable of doing. It was a good day throughout the lineup with big days by Sudbrook and Payne. Friday hasn't been an issue. We've played well on Fridays. The challenge is if we can come back and play well again tomorrow to take the series."
