Troy Sudbrook tallies eighth multi-hit game in nine outings
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Toledo baseball team dropped a midweek decision at Michigan, falling to the Wolverines, 5-2 at Ray Fisher Stadium on Wednesday.
Â
The Rockets got on the board first, but Michigan grabbed a 3-1 lead after two innings. Toledo drew closer with a run in the third, but Michigan tacked on runs in the third and fifth, and the 5-2 score held the rest of the way.
Â
Redshirt junior Troy Sudbrook had a 2-for-4 afternoon, his eighth multi-hit game in his last nine outings. He is hitting .452 (19-for-42) in that span and has a .370 average for the season. Junior Charlie Scholvin scored both of Toledo's runs.
Â
Starter Ryan Hughes (1-3) took the loss. The bullpen trio of Arturo Ormaza, Nate Langbehn and Braden Curry turned in a solid outing to keep Toledo in the game, allowing just two runs on six hits and one walk in 6.2 innings of work.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"We played better baseball today, just wasn't enough to win the game. I thought their starter did a great job of locating his pitches. We just couldn't get anything going offensively against his good sinker and hit ground ball after ground ball. On the bright side, we got three really good outings on the mound from Ormaza, Langbehn and Curry. We are still in a great spot at 6-3 in MAC play. We are right near the top and have a big weekend at Akron where we need to play well and separate ourselves from the pack."
