Senior fanned 10 batters and allowed one unearned run in eight innings in win at Central Michigan

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior right-handed pitcher Nathan Leininger has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Leininger's honor comes after a stellar start in Toledo's 10-1 weekend-opening win against Central Michigan. Leininger allowed just one unearned run on five hits in eight innings and struck out 10 batters without a walk. The 8.0 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts were both career highs.

Leininger didn't allow the run until the seventh inning and allowed only three runners to advance into scoring position in the outing. He punctuated the start by striking out the side in the eighth inning.

The Powell, Ohio native earned the first MAC Pitcher of the Week honor of his career.

For the season, Leininger has posted a 4-0 record with a 2.17 ERA in six starts. Leininger leads the league in innings pitched (37.1), ranks second in the MAC in ERA (2.17) and opponent average (.178), and is tied for third in strikeouts (36).
