Four Rockets produce RBIs and Deron Swanson tosses five shutout innings to pick up win
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Toledo baseball team combined timely hitting and shut-down pitching to get back in the win column, 5-1, at Lipscomb on Friday.
Â
The Rockets (2-6) took the lead with a two-run fourth inning and tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh to secure the victory. Starter Brady Sasse and reliever Deron Swanson combined to shut out the Bisons (4-4) over the final eight frames.
Â
Saborn Campbell supplied the go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning, and Cole Meyer added two RBI singles. Three Rockets tallied multi-hit games. Swanson picked up the win on the mound with five shutout innings, as the Rockets' pitching combined for 12 strikeouts.
Â
The Rockets and Bisons will continue their series on Saturday, Feb. 28, with first pitch at 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. CT.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"We played a complete game today versus a very good team. We've had some really close games that haven't gone our way, so it was nice to win this game and handle things well for nine innings. The offense swung the bats well and kept adding to the lead. Cade Baker and Cole Meyer stood out today at the plate. Brady Sasse gave us another quality start and Deron Swanson was outstanding to go the distance and finish it off. It was a dominating performance by Deron. As good as it feels to get back on the right side of the outcome, the challenge is to not be satisfied and come back tomorrow hungry to do it again."
