Cade Baker and Jacob Payne deliver multi-hit games in series finale
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Toledo baseball team fell in the rubber match of a three-game series at Memphis, 6-4, as the Rockets were unable to climb back from an early deficit at FedEx Park on Sunday.
Â
The Rockets (1-2) scored the first run of the game, but the Tigers (2-1) scored three times in the first inning and another in the second. UT got within two runs three times, but the Tigers tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and eighth and stopped Toledo's rally in the ninth inning.
Â
Toledo got multi-hit games from juniors Cade Baker and Jacob Payne, the second multi-hit games of the series for both players. Freshmen Hayden Frey and Preston Zumwalt made their collegiate debuts in Sunday's contest.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Tough loss, but I'm really proud of the way we battled to the last out. That's a sign of a good team and I wouldn't expect anything else from this group. There were a lot of positives to take away from the weekend and there are some things to improve on to be the team we can be.
"We swung the bats well all weekend, but need to be better with runners in scoring position. As expected, we played solid defense all weekend. We had some pitchers throw the ball really well, but need to cut down on the walks. Overall, I am very encouraged by what I saw this weekend. Need to get to work this week and get ready for a talented and veteran Jax State team.
