Rockets Claim 6-1 Win over Falcons in Battle of I-75

Toledo registers five singles wins to sweep season series against Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 win over Bowling Green in the Battle of I-75 on Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio. Freshman Jacklynka Scholten clinched match point for the Rockets, claiming her 14th singles win of the season.

Toledo (11-6, 4-3 MAC) started the match by clinching the doubles point. Gaby Rondon and Audrey Moutama earned a 6-0 win on the No. 2 doubles court. Neha Guru and Scholten followed with a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court to take an early 1-0 lead.

Rondon continued her strong start in singles play with a straight set win on the No. 3 court to take a 2-0 lead. Bowling Green (9-11, 0-7 MAC) tallied a win on the No. 1 singles court, winning its only point of the match.

Freshman Annika Munson extended the Rockets' lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 5 singles court. Scholten claimed a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 three-set victory on the No. 2 court to clinch match point for Toledo.

Jone Ibanez followed behind with a straight set win of her own on the No. 4 court. The match concluded with a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set as Neha Guru tallied a 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 win on the No. 6 singles court to claim the final point for the Rockets.

"I felt like the team competed well today. We didn't really play that well, but we won the big points for sure. The measure of a good team is the ability to win matches when everyone isn't at their best, so I was definitely happy with the effort."

UP NEXT
Toledo will head to Miami on Friday, April 11 and host Ball State on Sunday, April 13. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
