TOLEDO, Ohio – Freshman
Samantha Bolding blasted a pair of home runs to help the Toledo softball team open its weekend Battle of I-75 series at Scott Park on Friday afternoon with a 9-4 victory over arch-rival Bowling Green (15-31, 7-15 MAC).
The Rockets (15-26, 8-12 MAC) registered three round-trippers in total to set a school record with 46 home runs this season. The previous mark was 44 in the 2018 campaign.
Bolding now leads Toledo with 10 homers, one more than freshman
Audrey Miller and senior
Kendra VanderLugt. VanderLugt registered a two-run homer in today's contest. Bolding and VanderLugt each notched a team-high three RBIs as well.
Senior
Sophia Knight registered four strikeouts and didn't walk a batter in her complete-game victory for the Rockets.
Quoting Head Coach Jessica Bracamonte
"Really proud of the way we came out today. We showed a lot of composure and fight from start to finish, brought the energy, and set the tone. Sophia did a great job in the circle, our defense was solid behind her, and our offense had a record-breaking performance which makes for a great day all-around. Tomorrow is a new day so we need to reset and bring the same intensity and approach so good things will happen."
