Toledo plays sixth game against a Big Ten opponent this season

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo baseball team travels south for a midweek matchup against Ohio State on Wednesday, April 23. First pitch against the Buckeyes will be at 6:00 p.m. on B1G+. The Rockets will then play East Tennessee State at Scott Park in a weekend series on April 25-27, with the games set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on ESPN+.

Toledo (16-23, 10-11 MAC) captured its third MAC series this season after sweeping Western Michigan last week. Logan Jones and Jacob Tabor combined for Toledo's third shutout of the season on Thursday. Jackson Bergman pitched 6.0 innings on Friday, giving up only two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Nathan Leininger pitched 3.0 innings with one run, one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts on Saturday. Kaleb Herbert led the offense, going 5-for-12, with a .563 on-base percentage, two RBIs, a run scored, a double, and three walks. Cole Cahill had a .917 slugging percentage with two home runs, a double, five RBIs, and three runs scored.

The Opponents
Ohio State (9-27, 2-16 Big Ten) beat Wright State in a midweek matchup 18-2 in seven innings on April 15. The Buckeyes were swept in the weekend series against Michigan State, losing one in 11 innings and one in seven innings. Toledo's last matchup against Ohio State was on March 22, 2023, with the Rockets losing a back-and-forth game in Columbus, 6-4.

East Tennessee State (27-11, 8-4 SoCon) lost a midweek game against Virginia Tech and took 2-of-3 against Mercer in a weekend series. The Rockets last played the Buccaneers to open the 2023 season, with ETSU winning 2-of-3 in Johnson City.

Leading Off

Toledo faces its third Big Ten team (sixth game overall) and fourth Power Four team of the season with its matchup against Ohio State.
Logan Jones and Jacob Tabor combined to shutout Western Michigan on Thursday. Jones picked up the win by pitching 5.1 scoreless innings, the longest outing of his career, on just two hits and five strikeouts. Tabor earned the save by pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, only allowing three hits and inducing two inning-ending double plays.
In Friday's game, Luke Walton hit his first walk-off of his career, and Kaleb Herbert had a career high in hits, going 4-for-5.
Toledo enters the week sixth in the MAC standings and currently holds the final MAC tournament spot.

Caden Konczak leads Rocket hitters with seven home runs, a slugging percentage of .464, and runs scored (23). Konczak hit a home run and totaled three RBIs against Oakland.
Troy Sudbrook leads the team in total bases (70), hits (42), and RBIs (24).
Konczak, Brayden White, and Cole Cahill are tied for eighth in the MAC in sacrifice flies with three apiece.
Toledo has scored 20 runs (6.67/game) in its last two MAC series against EMU and WMU, combining for a 5-1 record in those series.
