Toledo Travels to Miami, Hosts Ball State in Key MAC Matches

Rockets look to make tournament push this weekend
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will play two key Mid-American Conference matches this weekend that could determine whether the Rockets earn a berth into the Mid-American Conference Championships.The Rockets will play at Miami on Friday, April 11 at noon and then return home for a 1:00 p.m. match against Ball State on Sunday, April 13 outdoors at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on campus.
As of today, the Rockets are tied with Buffalo for second place in the MAC's East Division and currently hold the No. 3 seed in the MAC tournament. Miami leads the East Division while Northern Illinois is first in the West Division. Buffalo currently holds the fourth and final spot in the MAC Tournament. Ball State (3-4) is game behind Toledo and Buffalo in the battle for the final spot in the playoffs. Toledo, the defending MAC champions, will host the MAC Championships on April 24-25.
ABOUT THE ROCKETS
Toledo owns an overall record of 11-6 (4-3 MAC) after prevailing over Eastern Michigan on Friday, 4-3, and getting the rivalry win over Bowling Green, 6-1. Freshman Annika Munson clinched match point over Eastern Michigan with a third-set tiebreaker victory. Freshman Jacklynka Scholten moved to 14-0 in singles play (6-0 MAC) after winning in straight sets on Friday and winning in three sets over Bowling Green's Isabella Baker, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Miami enters the match with an 8-8 (7-0 MAC) record. The RedHawks won both matches last weekend, beating Buffalo and Ball State, 4-3. Miami won the meeting earlier this season, 4-3, on March 16 at Twos Athletic Club.
Ball State enters the match with a 9-8 (3-4 MAC) record. The Cardinals went 1-1 last weekend, beating Western Michigan 4-3 and falling to Miami, 4-3. Ball State will host Bowling Green on Friday and head to Toledo on Sunday. The Rockets and Cardinals last met on April 21, 2024, with Toledo earning a 7-0 sweep.
