Rockets continue timely push towards MAC Tournament with third straight win
OXFORD, Ohio – Sophomore Jone Ibanez clinched Toledo women's tennis' 4-3 victory over Miami on Friday afternoon. Ibanez' win in straight sets on the No. 4 singles court helped the Rockets hand the RedHawks (8-9, 7-1 MAC) their first loss in Mid-American Conference play this season.
Toledo (12-6, 5-3 MAC) has now won three straight matches and remains in third place in the conference standings.
The Rockets picked up the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Neha Guru and Jacklynka Scholten grabbed a 6-4 victory on the No. 1 doubles court. Audrey Moutama and Gaby Rondon fell on the No. 2 court, 6-4, to even doubles play. Ibanez and Annika Munson clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on the No. 3 court.
Miami evened the score, 1-1, after Moutama dropped a straight-set contest on the No. 1 court. Scholten won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, on the No. 2 court to put Toledo ahead, 2-1. The freshman is now 7-0 in MAC play and 15-0 overall.
Catherine Rhegness fell in straight sets to Miami's Sarah Dev on the No. 6 court to even the match score, 2-2. Toledo was able to retake the lead, 3-2, after Rondon picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory on the No. 3 court. Munson dropped a straight-set match on the No. 5 court to equalize the match at 3-3.
Ibanez clinched match point for the Rockets in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-3 victory. The sophomore moved to 11-5 on the season and has won two-consecutive singles matches on the No. 4 court.
