DEKALB, Ill. – The Toledo women's tennis team fell in a tight match, 4-3, to Northern Illinois on Friday. The Rockets had victories on the No. 2 and No. 6 courts from freshmen Jacklynka Scholten and Catherine Rhegness to extend their undefeated records in singles play.

Scholten and Neha Guru struck first with a 6-2 win on the No. 1 doubles court, but it was not enough as Northern Illinois (16-4, 3-1 MAC) clinched the doubles point after taking wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.

Toledo (9-5, 2-2 MAC) fell behind 2-0 after Jone Ibanez dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match on the No. 4 court to Northern Illinois' Nataly Ninova while Gaby Rondon fell in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0 on the No. 3 court to put the Huskies ahead 3-0.

Scholten tallied her 12th-consecutive singles win on the No. 2 court to Toledo on the board, 3-1. Junior Audrey Moutama dropped a three-set match on the No. 1 court as Northern Illinois clinched match point. 

Annika Munson and Rhegness competed on the No. 5 and 6 courts, respecitvely. Both freshmen earned straight-set victories to record the final score of 4-3 as Rhegness recorded her eighth-straight singles win on the season to stay undefeated.

"Overall NIU played better than we did today. I'm proud of my four freshmen showing up in a big way today but it wasn't enough. Credit to NIU. Definitely the best NIU team there's been in the past 20 years."

UP NEXT
Toledo (9-5, 2-2 MAC) will continue Mid-American Conference play at Western Michigan on Sunday, March 30 with first serve set for 1:00 p.m.
