Rockets Claim Thrilling 4-3 Win Over UIC

Poonthong Komolpisut's third-set tie-breaker victory helps Toledo move to 7-0 at home this season

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo sophomore Poonthong Komolpisut pulled out a third-set tiebreaker win on the No. 1 singles court to help the Rockets clinch a 4-3 match victory over UIC on Thursday afternoon at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. This was Toledo's second straight victory and improves its home winning streak to seven consecutive matches.

Toledo (8-6, 2-2 MAC) claimed an early 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles point. Joshua Mackey and Lucas Britez took a 6-3 victory on the No. 2 court while Hanamichi Carvajal and Poonthong Komolpisut followed with a 6-4 win on the No. 1 court to clinch the point. Matias Olivero and Charlie Snow also earned a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court.

UIC (12-3, 3-1 MAC) evened the match, 1-1, with a singles win on the No. 5 court. Matias Olivero and Hanamichi Carvajal recorded straight-set wins on the No. 3 and No. 2 courts, respectively, to put Toledo in front, 3-1.

The Flames took three-set wins on the No. 4 and No. 6 courts, tying the match 3-3. The match came down to the No. 1 court where Komolpisut fell in a tiebreaker during the first set, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-1. In the decisive third set, Komolpisut took a 6-2 lead before UIC's Artem Alekseychuk tied the set and forced a tiebreaker. Komolpisut clinched match point with a final score of 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
