Toledo Defeats Northern Illinois 5-2 to Earn Third-Straight MAC Win

Rockets move to 8-0 at home and 3-2 in conference play
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team claimed its third-straight win over a Mid-American Conference opponent with a 5-2 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. The Rockets move to an impressive 8-0 when playing on their home court this season.Â
Toledo (9-6, 3-2 MAC)Â grabbed an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Hanamichi Carvajal and Komolpisut earned a 6-1 win on the No. 1 court while Lucas Britez and Mackey took a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court to claim the point. Matias Olivero and Charlie Snow were ahead 3-2 on the No. 3 court before abandoning the match.
In singles play, Britez gave Toledo a 2-0 lead after defeating NIU's Iker Dellien on the No. 5 court 6-2, 6-0. The Huskies responded with a straight set win on the No. 2 court to cut Toledo's lead in half, 2-1. Mackey and Komolpisut clinched their matches in straight sets on the No. 4 and No. 1 singles courts, respectively, within seconds of each other to tally match point, 4-1. Komolpisut has won three-straight singles matchups against conference foes and has an overall record of 10-4.
Olivero followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win on the No. 3 court to put the Rockets in front, 5-1. The junior is now 5-0 in singles play against MAC opponents and has won eight consecutive singles matchups, dating back to Feb. 22 against Cleveland State. Sophomore Charlie Snow concluded the match after falling in a tiebreaker on the No. 6 court to record the final score, 5-2.
