Toledo Continues MAC Play Hosting UIC and Northern Illinois

Rockets look to extend their six-match homecourt winning streak

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team looks to stay in the win column as it hosts UIC and Northern Illinois for a pair of Mid-American Conference matches this week. The Rockets will face the Flames on Thursday and the Huskies on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be held at Shadow Valley Tennis Club (indoors) or the UT Varsity Tennis Courts (outdoors), weather permitting.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS
Toledo (7-6, 1-2 MAC) earned a 4-3 win over No. 70 Buffalo on March 15, extending its home record to 6-0 this season while giving the Bulls their first MAC loss of the year. Junior Matias Olivero was named MAC Singles Player of the Week after fighting back from a 5-1 deficit in the third set and clinching match point on the No. 3 singles court. Hanamichi Carvajal and Poonthong Komolpisut earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week after an impressive 7-6 (7-5) win on the No. 1 doubles court to claim the doubles point.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
UIC (12-2, 3-0 MAC) has won its last 10 matches, earning wins over Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Ball State. The Rockets won both matchups against the Flames last season, grabbing a 4-3 win in Chicago and a 6-1 win at home.

Northern Illinois (7-9, 0-3 MAC) has dropped its last two matches to Ball State and Western Michigan. The Huskies will take on Buffalo on Thursday before heading to Toledo on Saturday. The Rockets split the season series with Northern Illinois in 2024, with each team winning on its home court.
