Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rockets Fall in Road Contest at Northwestern, 1-0

Wildcats score winner in 55th minute off corner kick

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Toledo women's soccer team held Northwestern scoreless through the first half, but a 55th-minute goal was the difference in a 1-0 defeat to the Wildcats at Martin Stadium on Sunday.

The Rockets (0-2-1) used a strong defensive effort and three saves from Agnes Stenlund to remain close, but were unable to get a shot on target against the Wildcats' (3-1-0) defense.

"Today's game was very competitive," said Head Coach Mark Batman. "We defended really well and made it difficult for their offense. We just need to keep improving on the ball and being dangerous in dangerous moments. We'll reset and get ready for Detroit Mercy on Friday."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 25' | The Wildcats were awarded a free kick just outside the box, but the ensuing shot was easily saved.
  • 45' | A Northwestern cross bounced off a Toledo defender towards the goal, but Stenlund dove across to keep the ball out.
  • 55' | Northwestern took a 1-0 lead after Catarina Regazzoni collected a Wildcat corner kick and scored from right in front of the goal.
  • 63' | Stenlund made saves on successive scoring chances to keep the Rockets within one.
  • 89' | A Carys Bourbeau shot to equalize went wide from outside the box.
