Toledo Falls 8-2 in Series Finale to Kent State

Rockets’ five-game winning streak snapped by Golden Flashes

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team suffered its first home loss and saw its five-game winning streak snapped in an 8-2 loss to Kent State on Sunday afternoon in the finale of its three-game series at Scott Park. Toledo (18-14, 9-3 MAC) won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, 8-4 and 4-3.

Kent State took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and built an 8-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Toledo got on the board with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a solo homer from fifth-year senior Riley Mohr.

Sophia Knight (12-6) started for the Rockets and allowed seven runs and six hits.

For the weekend, graduate student Emily Bracamonte paced the offense with six hits, senior Lauren Erickson hit three doubles, and senior Jenna Kroll collected a team-high three RBIs. Mohr's solo homer was her fourth of the year and 10th of her career.

Toledo will return to action when it heads to DeKalb, Ill. for a three-game series vs. Northern Illinois on Friday-Saturday, April 12-13 at Mary M. Bell Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kent State plated three runs in the second to take an early lead.
  • The Golden Flashes added to their advantage with a five-run sixth.
  • Riley Mohr's solo homer and Kendra VanderLugt's RBI double reduced the Rockets' deficit to 8-2.
  • Toledo had a chance to score more in the sixth by loading the bases with one out but KSU's Ella Esterby closed the door.
