FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Toledo baseball team forced extra innings against Purdue Fort Wayne, but were held off the scoreboard in the extra frames as the Mastodons took a 4-3, 13-inning victory at Mastadon Field on Wednesday.

The Rockets (19-22) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game, but could not get the go-ahead run across as Purdue Fort Wayne (15-25) won its second extra-inning game this season.

Charlie Scholvin went 1-for-3 with two RBIs including a game-tying double in the seventh. Senior
Owen Jackson also went 1-for-3 and drew three walks.

Toledo used six different pitchers on the afternoon. Senior
Yianni Skeriotis started and went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. Junior
Brennan McCune pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five, doing so after inheriting a bases-loaded, one out jam in the bottom of the third. McCune was followed by scoreless efforts from freshman
Jacob Tabor (1.1 innings), senior
Kyle Pijaszek (2.0 innings) and senior
Kyle Music (1.0 inning). Redshirt freshman
Ryan Hughes (0-1) took the decision on Wednesday.

The bullpen's effort added up to 10.0 innings pitched, giving up only one earned run on three hits, with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.

The Rockets will play a weekend conference series at Ohio April 26-28. First pitch for Friday's series opener is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and all three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mastodons struck twice in the first on an RBI double and a fielding error for a 2-0 lead.
- Purdue Fort Wayne strung together three singles in the second to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Scott Mackiewicz led off the fourth with a double and came home two batters later on a Brayden White's sacrifice fly to put UT within 3-1.
- After two singles put runners on the corners in the fifth, Charlie Scholvin executed a squeeze bunt for Toledo's second run.
- In his next at bat, Scholvin delivered a two-out RBI double to tie the game at three in the seventh.
- Two wild pitches with the lead runner on second pushed the winning run across in the 13th for the Mastodons.
