TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo senior
Grant Umberger was named Mid-American Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday following his outstanding start this past weekend in Game One of the Rockets' series vs. Kent State.
A Chester Springs, Pa. native, Umberger fanned a career-high nine batters and allowed just four hits and one walk in six scoreless innings to propel Toledo to a 12-1 victory over the Golden Flashes in Game One of Saturday's doubleheader. The victory helped the Rockets win their fifth of six Mid-American Conference series this season.
Umberger registered two strikeouts in each of his first four innings and then didn't allow any hits in his final two innings. The Rockets eventually gave Umberger some breathing room by scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead prior to his departure.
The Rockets will return to action when they head to downtown Toledo on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. to host the University of Michigan at Fifth Third Field. UT will then return to conference play when it hosts Miami in a three-game series on Friday-Sunday, April 19-21.
