TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team won its sixth-straight Mid-American Conference game with a 9-4 victory over Ball State on Saturday at Scott Park. The Rockets defeated the Cardinals 7-3 and 2-1 in Friday's doubleheader to sweep the three-game series.
Toledo (16-13, 7-2 MAC) also swept its three-game series at Bowling Green last weekend.
Toledo held a 7-0 lead through three innings before BSU got its first hit off junior
Sophia Knight in the top of the fourth. The Cardinals cut the lead to 7-2 on a two-run homer. Senior
Riley Mohr cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-2. BSU cut the lead ti five once again with a two-run bomb in the top of the seventh, but was not able to do any further damage. Knight (11-5) went the distance against the Cardinals, allowing five hits to pick up her second win of the series.
For the weekend, junior
Sidney Griffith led the offense with six hits and one stolen base, and senior
Emily Bracamonte drove in a team-high four runs. Mohr added five hits, including her third home run of the season, and three RBIs. Knight struck out five batters with a 2.00 ERA in 14.0 innings of play.
"Incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and commitment of this team," head coach
Jessica Bracamonte said. "High standards have been established within our circle but that doesn't make them easy to meet. This group shows up every single day ready to do what it takes to prepare to be our best, and I think that's what we are seeing pay off for them right now. They know that nothing carries over and we need to continue our approach to the process to put ourselves in the best position to continue meeting those standards. Today we celebrate, tomorrow we get back to work."
Toledo will turn around and head up to Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Tuesday, April 2, for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader with Central Michigan at Margo Jonker Stadium.
