Rockets head into the final day of competition in seventh place with 174 team points
ATHENS, Ohio – Fifth-year seniors Lauren Kilgore and Kennedy Lovell led the Toledo women's swimming & diving team on the third day of the 2024 MAC Championships on Friday night. Kilgore took over as the program's 100 butterfly record holder with a time of 53.46 and finished seventh in the event, while Lovell also finished seventh in the 200 freestyle.
The Rockets sit in seventh place with 174 team points, 14 points behind sixth-place Ohio after three days of competition in Athens.
Kilgore had a hot start to Friday, setting the school record at 53.46 to qualify for the 100 butterfly finals, where she finished seventh with a time of 53.72.
Freshman Leah Evans qualified for two events in her first MAC Championship meet. She finished ninth in the 100 butterfly (54.70) and 10th in the 100 backstroke (54.58). Evans' backstroke time is the third-best time in Toledo history and a quarter of a second off the school record of 54.33 set by Christina Noens in 2014.
In the 200 freestyle, Toledo was represented by Lovell and sophomore Janne Slegers. Lovell qualified with a season-best 1:49.19 and finished seventh overall with a final time of 1:49.57. Slegers qualified with a PR time of 1:49.7 and followed with a 1:50.55 to finish 14th overall.
Toledo's 200 freestyle relay team of Slegers, Lovell, Kilgore, and Evans clocked in at 1:32.32 in fifth place, the best time by the Midnight Blue and Gold this season. The Rockers' time threatened the school record of 1:32.30 set at the 2022 MAC Championships.
Seven Rockets swam Friday morning and recorded season-best times, but missed the cut for the finals: Sydney Conrad in the 100 butterfly (56.58); Lindsey Creek in the 400 IM (4:33.99); Molly Pressler (1:54.88), Jovana Duric (1:55.74), and Clarke Doyle (1:587.21) in the 200 freestyle; and Mackenzie Carter (58.52) and Madeline Blakely (56.98) in the 100 backstroke.
The Mid-American Conference will crown the 2024 Champion tomorrow. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the 1,650 freestyle with kick off the seven final events at 6:00 p.m.
